Project Overview

Each year, the AKC oversees roughly 30,000 dog events. That's about 5x the number of games played across the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB combined!

Just like referees in pro sports, judges in dog sports are essential to keep competition fair, which makes selecting the right ones a high-stakes challenge.

The AKC Judge Directory is a tool used to find and hire licensed dog show judges for dog events, but the old system offered limited filters, no way to check for schedule conflicts, and a poor mobile experience.

I lead a redesign project to modernize search with advanced filtering, judge profiles, and mobile-friendly layouts, making it faster and easier to plan and mange thousands of dog shows.

What I Did

  • Led discovery research: surveys (100+ responses), user interviews, and competitor audits

  • Synthesized findings into clear UX requirements and feature priorities

  • Created lo-fi wireframes and hi-fi mockups exploring improved filters, judge profiles, and mobile layouts

  • Aligned design direction with AKC stakeholders across Sports & Events and IT
